Please complete this form to request BSW Director permission to exceed maximum credit hours (20+ credit hours for Fall/Spring or 15+ for Summer). This maximum credit hour policy is in place to protect students and help you be successful. We have had students in the past try to add too much to their plate and end up overwhelmed and needing to reduce the load later on. At the same time, we respect student autonomy and will consider requests for exceptions to this policy for students with special circumstances on a case by case basis. We recommend that if you are given permission to pursue these additional hours, make sure your other life commitments (work, family, volunteering, etc.) will allow you to give your coursework the attention and time it will require. To help you determine the course load most appropriate for you, use the formula: 3 credit hours (1 course) = 3 hours “in class” (virtual lectures/activities) per week + 6-9 hours reading & completing assignments per class per week.
